The Mayor of Campbelltown has hosted a special afternoon tea in honour of local primary school student, Tia Brennen.
Tia, who is just nine years of age, has become a household name across Campbelltown for providing bikes to those less fortunate.
Now she is also the youngest ever recipient of a community service award.
Tia, with the help of her parents and younger sister, collects unwanted or rundown bikes from across Campbelltown and beyond, repairing them to pass on to other children who haven’t had the opportunity to experience the joy of having their own bike.
Being heartened by Tia’s story, and the difference she is making to the lives of other young people across Campbelltown, Cr Paul Hawker invited Tia and her family to a special reception in her honour, presenting her with a Community Service Award and five second-hand bikes to contribute to her cause.
Cr Hawker said it was truly humbling to see the community spirit that our city is renowned for being demonstrated by someone so young.
“Tia’s thoughtfulness and generosity is inspirational, and I have no doubt that the young people of Campbelltown who are benefitting from these wonderful acts of kindness are very appreciative, as are we as a community,” Cr Hawker said.
“Humbled by Tia’s contribution to our city, particularly at such a young age, and in recognition of her enthusiasm, dedication and commitment to the community of Campbelltown, I was proud to present Tia with a Community Service Award as a token of our appreciation.
“I sincerely thank Tia, her family, and the many community members and groups that have rallied together in support of Tia’s wonderful cause, for helping to make Campbelltown City such a wonderful place to live, work and play,” Cr Hawker said.
