Macarthur region livestock owners are being urged to plan for biosecurity protection.

They could start by attending a farm biosecurity workshop in Camden on Thursday, September 14.

Greater Sydney Local Land Services, in partnership with NSW DPI and the Livestock Biosecurity Network will host the event.

It is aimed at giving producers the latest information and tools to safeguard their farm against biosecurity threats, and protect and maintain their market access. Greater Sydney biosecurity manager Graham Wilson said the workshop would highlight important industry biosecurity changes as well as giving producers the tools to implement a best practice farm biosecurity plan.

“Key topics will include information on the new Johne’s disease and Johne’s Beef Assurance Score (JBAS) arrangements as well as the new requirements for the Livestock Production Assurance Program (LPA),” he said.

“Livestock producers effectively have until October 1 to have a biosecurity plan in place to either maintain their current J-BAS or receive a score of six.

Mr Wilson said that while the J-BAS system was managed by Animal Health Australia and the Cattle Council, Greater Sydney Local Land Services was working to support producers to ensure the process was as simple to navigate as possible.

“Our experts are here to guide livestock owners through the process and ensure they have all the tools to implement a biosecurity plan which is essential to protecting their land, animals, investment and the broader community from the threat of invasive pests and diseases,” he said.

The workshop will be held on Thursday, 14 September from 6.30 to 9pm in the Camden Civic Centre Community Room.
