The Minns Labor Government has lost the plot on housing. That’s the only conclusion a reasonable person could draw from its support for five and six storey apartments right in the middle of Camden’s heritage heart.
There’s no public transport nearby, meaning more cars on our already congested roads.
These apartments have been deemed as social housing, but that is obviously irrelevant.
What we have here is vandalism of heritage and history.
Hopefully Minns and his planning minister will come to their senses and knock this idiocy on the head.
Surely, they know that so much of modern Australia started right here in Camden and what we these days call Macarthur.
The wool industry, wine growing, cattle farming, the list goes on.
Yet these so called leaders are prepared to turn this beautiful Australian town into an ugly duckling.
And in any case 90 odd apartments won’t solve the housing crisis.
This “state significant’’ proposal is a total waste of time, and with an election seven months away you’d think they would take the smart option and give it the flick.
If it must be in the Camden local government area, they ought to look at parts of it more appropriate for high rise apartments.
Camden is already doing its fair share on the housing front, and has been doing so for 20 years.
It wasn’t that long ago Camden signs stated the population was 20,000 or thereabouts.
It’s now close to 150,000! If that’s not doing your share I don’t know what is.
Here’s a suggestion: rezone land for housing along the metro route, from Western Sydney International Airport to Penrith.
Macarthur missed out on the airport metro, yet we’re still expected to provide more housing.

Well, all I can say is, people voted Labor in – who are you going to vote for next election?
The DA is being released this week so the wider community needs to stand up and say NO thankyou. The proposed sites can be used for social housing at an appropriate level that reflects the landscape of the Camden township not something taken out of a Homes NSW catalogue.

I’m sorry people don’t have housing, but this isn’t a solution, and it’s not about being a nimby it just doesn’t make sense on any level.
