Camden Council has received almost $300,000 from Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) for regional road upgrades and routine maintenance.

The roads component of the grant will help council with routine maintenance such as road patching works on declared regional roads, or can be used for a single project to rehabilitate a regional road.

This year the funds are being allocated to renew a section of Cawdor Road, near Burragorang Road, in conjunction with blackspot funding allocated this year to widen the existing signalised intersection at Burragorang Road and Cawdor Road.

The traffic facilities component of the grant will fund maintenance of road signs and road line marking, as well as some minor changes that are needed to address changes in conditions.

The Cawdor Road works are expected to occur in early to mid-2017, while the signs and lines work are undertaken throughout the year.

The total funding amount of $298,000 is provided under the Regional Roads Block Grant Agreement and is part of an annual allocation of funds from RMS to assist in the maintenance of regional roads as well as signs and line marking on all roads.

The funds received are a contribution only and do not cover the full cost of these works, with councils allocating their own funds where needed to keep the road network in a satisfactory condition
