Mittagong may have been pipped at the post by the Camden Rams but the Lions are still running first on the Macarthur Conference premiership ladder.
The Lions were in the game for 80 minutes before going down 34-28 in a clash that could turn out to be the dress rehearsal for this season’s grand final.
A high quality, fast paced match that went to the wire, it lived up to expectations as a top of the table clash – something appreciated by the fans at Kirkham Park on a cool but sunny Sunday afternoon.
Camden managed to get ahead towards the end, but had to hold on grimly as the Lions tried to storm home in the last few minutes of the match.
Following the completion of round 10 matches Mittagong and Camden (both on 17 points) have got a three point buffer between them and the team coming third on the ladder, Oakdale Workers (14 points).
The Lions are first because of their superior for and against points.
Thirlmere Roosters and the Oaks Tigers, both on 13 points, are in fourth and fifth positions.
East Campbelltown Eagles (12 points) are just one point out of the top five.
The Eagles, who had a bye in round 10, are back in action this weekend when they host the improving Narellan Jets at Waminda Oval.
