Local footy teams had a weekend to forget, with only the Camden Cats celebrating after their victory in the Sydney AFL Premier competition.

Camden comprehensively defeated Western Suburbs Magpies 12.14-86 to 4.11-35.

Playing away from home at Picken Oval, the Cats kicked six goals in the first quarter to set up their fourth victory of the season.

The Cats return home on Saturday, June 16  – there’s a bye for all teams on the Queen’s Birthday long weekend – when they host third placed Manly Warringah Wolves at Fairfax Reserve, Camden from 2.30pm in what should be a tough but entertaining AFL encounter.

In round 8 of the Illawarra rugby premiership, Campbelltown Harlequins rugby club first grade suffered a narrow 29-24 loss at the hands of University of Wollongong.

The game was played at Campbelltown Showground.

Also playing at home were the Camden Rams, pictured left, who were blown away by Bowral 55-5.

In round nine matches Camden host Kiama this weekend, while the Harlequins are away to Shoalhaven.

In football, the Macarthur Rams have suffered another defeat, this time a 2-1 loss at home to Blacktown Spartans in round 14 of the NPL men’s 2 premiership.

The loss means the second last placed Spartans have put a five point buffer between themselves and the Rams, who have won two games and drawn two so far this season and look set to pick up the wooden spoon in 2018.

This weekend Macarthur are away to competition leaders Mt Druitt.

In rugby league, the high flying East Campbelltown Eagles take on Penrith Brothers this Sunday in an away clash for round 8 of the Sydney Shield premiership.

The Eagles have a share of the competition lead and look like they may be the real deal in 2018.
