Alanna Humphries, independent candidate in the Liverpool City Council South Ward by-election on Saturday, April 18, says she won’t make promises about what she cannot change.
“Realistically, we are almost halfway through the term, and councillors work collectively to achieve outcomes,’’ says the Wattle Grove resident for more than a decade.
“What I can promise is that I will do my best to represent South Ward and the broader Liverpool community thoughtfully and responsibly,’’ says Ms Humphries.
“I’m not using this as a stepping-stone to state or federal politics. I am interested in local government, and I would remain on council for as long as I am elected.
“You don’t have to vote for me, but please consider voting for an independent, whoever that may be.
“If you’re not happy with the current councillors, or the candidates in this by-election, I encourage you to consider running for election in 2028.’’
Ms Humphries previously ran for the council in the 2021 election.
“I didn’t actively campaign, and I didn’t come last,’’ she says.
She is currently studying for a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Studio Practice) degree at UNSW.
“I’ve held both paid and unpaid roles on boards, committees, councils, working groups and through individual consulting across a range of sectors including arts, community, disability and higher education,’’ she said.
Ms Humphries said that if elected she would focus on these areas:
The return of in person district forums, with accessible online options.
Providing clear, accessible information about what council can and cannot do.
Working to ensure the community receives adequate notice and meaningful opportunities to have their say on issues that impact them.
