The $10m expansion of Minto Mall is a huge investment in the local community, MP Anoulack Chanthivong said at today’s official opening.

The member for Macquarie Fields, who joined Campbelltown mayor George Greiss and the owners of the centre for the celebrations this morning, said he had seen first hand the Minto Mall journey since arriving in Campbelltown in 1988.

“I remember coming to Minto Mall, catching the 874 bus, which dropped me off opposite at McDonalds,’’ he said.

“Seeing what Tony (Murdocca) and his family and the team have done, it’s a huge investment into the wellbeing of our local community and I thank the owners for that.

“I am so proud as the local member to know the future of our community is so much better because of the upgrade of Minto Mall,’’ he said.

Mayor Greiss, who helped cut the ribbon, pictured above, also commended the owners of the centre for having the confidence and the vision to grow Minto Mall alongside the growth of the community.

The expansion has brought new services and retailers to Minto Mall, as well as a child care centre, under cover parking in the southern end and other features.

The retailers include quality restaurants such as My Italian serving pizza and pasta, AtMex and hamburger joint Bunz Out, all located at the southern end of the centre.

Centre manager Michael Prestia said today was the start of a new era for Minto Mall.

“The centre has been transformed, it has been taken to the next level with more services and retail stores for the community,’’ he said.

“As far as the future is concerned, Minto Mall is in good stead.’’

Mr Prestia said the families who have remained loyal to Minto Mall over the years deserved to be thanked for “supporting our retailers through the good times and the not so good times’’.

Aboriginal elder Uncle Ivan, pictured below, led the way in the welcome to country ceremony before the ribbon cutting, while the entertainment, which is continuing for most of the day, included a three piece band and performances by local schools.
