On the buses, with safe drivers behind the wheel

The NSW Government today announced bus services from Campbelltown to Western Sydney International airport would start on July 5.

They didn’t say if they were on the lookout for bus drivers, but if they are we can recommend Yener Akdogan from the Macquarie Fields Depot, pictured above.

During the recent NSW Bus Safety Week, Australia’s leading public transport operator, Transit Systems recognised 16 local bus drivers.

Three of those drivers achieved an incredible milestone: one million kilometres with zero at fault incidents.

One of the magnificent three was, you guessed it, Yener Akdogan from Macquarie Fields Depot.

In the top 16 were drivers from bus depots at Bradbury, Hoxton Park, Hoxton Park SW, and Smeaton Grange, but Yener Akdogan was the king of the road.

Transit Systems NSW says these are career drivers who are a testament to the professionalism and skill required in the transport industry and the busy, dynamic metropolitan Sydney roads.

Mr Akdogan was too humble to talk to the media, but there were no shortages of tributes to him and his colleagues.

“Safety is not incidental, it is engineered, measured and continuously improved,’’ said Transit Systems NSW managing director Rino Matarazzo.

“These awards reinforce the high standards we expect and the accountability we uphold across our operations.

“Congratulations to each of the recipients and thank you for your professionalism and passion behind the wheel – we are very proud of each of you,” he said.

Transit Systems says it introduced the Safe Driver Awards program in recognition of Bus Safety Week, and to formally acknowledge drivers who demonstrate exceptional safety performance and professionalism across its NSW operations.

These milestones included extensive kilometres driven without an at-fault accident, alongside consistently high safety scores measured through driver history records and advanced telematics analytics, including GreenRoad performance data.
