This Thursday night Macarthur FC will be playing their third game in a row at home.
The Bulls will host Vietnamese club Cong An Hanoi FC in round four of the Asian Champions League Two group stages.
But don’t think for a moment that the club has been doing it easy at the start of a new season – far from it.
A week ago, on a cold Monday night, the Bulls recorded their first win of the A-League season when they defeated Adelaide United 2-1 before 3,001 fans at Campbelltown Stadium.
More than double that turned up for a pulsating Western Sydney derby on Saturday night, with 7,605 the official attendance number.
The Bulls scored first via a header inside the first two minutes from big Harry Sawyer, who had an excellent game, sometimes toiling on his pat malone up front.
The points were shared after the Wanderers snagged an equalised eight minutes from fulltime and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
It’s still too early to detect what the Bulls will be capable of doing this season, with virtually a brand new squad.
And there’s just so many factors at play so early in the season.
On top of the travel for mid week games in Asia they also currently have three important players in the injury ward: Chris Ikonomidis, Dean Bosnjak and Bernardo.
Head coach Mile Sterjovski admitted after the Wanderers match that juggling all of that, as well as trying to bring on the new faces, was quite a challenge for him and the coaching staff.
“We’re doing everything we can to make sure we’re up for every game we play,’’ he said.
“But the travel can be challenging.
“Against Western Sydney we were very dominant in the first half.
“It was a different game in the second half, maybe a bit of fatigue came into it from our boys, but to be fair the Wanderers came out with a lot more energy in that period.
“But I just cannot fault our boys for the effort, considering all the factors going into such a big match, which I thought was a very good game for the fans,’’ he said.
The Bulls will have another short turnaround period after their ACL2 match on Thursday night.
Their next A-League match is the fourth round clash with Sydney FC on Sunday, November 9 at Leichhardt Oval, 3pm kick off.
