In an unexpected twist, Parramatta’s CommBank Stadium will host the final of the 2022 Australia Cup between Macarthur FC and Sydney United.

Once the finalists were known late last week, it was expected that one of them would have been playing at home on Saturday, October 1.

Football Australia had indicated Campbelltown Stadium or Edensor Park would have hosted the final, but it seems there was a third, neutral choice.

The good news for fans of both teams, is that family and fan-friendly ticket prices have been set for the occasion.

Sydney United 58 FC are the first semi-professional outfit to feature in Australian football’s premier knockout competition in the modern era.

They will come up against a Macarthur FC side brimming with confidence, having scored 17 goals in their four matches during the Australia Cup 2022 final rounds, including an empathic 5-2 victory over Oakleigh Cannons FC in the semi final.

The Australia Cup 2022 decider will also be the first professional final as a head coach for former Trinidad & Tobago international and Manchester United legend, Dwight Yorke.

The Bulls head coach, who was appointed in May, has assembled an impressive roster heading into the 2022-23 A-League season, including the prized signing of Daniel Arzani, pictured, who has three goals to his name from the Cup campaign so far.

The Australia Cup is the only competition in Australian sport where amateur clubs get the opportunity to compete against the sport’s premier clubs.

In 2022, 742 clubs competed in the sudden death competition.

Now there are just two left: Sydney United 58 FC and Macarthur FC.

The Australia Cup 2022 final will be shown live and free in eastern Australia on Channel 10.
