Bulls host Melbourne City as finals push gathers pace

It’s not quite the pointy end of the season in the A-League as we head into the Australia Day weekend with Macarthur FC in sixth spot on the ladder.

But the next four to six rounds will be crucial in who makes the finals and who starts planning for next season.

The Bulls, who host fifth placed Melbourne City FC this Saturday night at Campbelltown Stadium, know it all too well.

Forward Chris Ikonomidis, who returned from injury last week in the club’s 1-1 draw with the Central Coast Mariners in Gosford, made it clear that three points are worth their weight in gold when he fronted the media this morning, to talk about the clash with City.

“We were disappointed with the draw, having created more than 30 shots at goal,’’ he said.

“We should have walked away with more than a point.

“But we can take some positives out of the match in that it was a good performance.’’

Ikonomidis was also asked about his own return from injury.

“I am super happy to be back with the team, to be able to contribute and help the team,’’ he said.

“It’s another massive game, our clash against City, they are a good opposition.

“Plus, we take these home games super seriously, as we made a pact to win as many games at home as possible to help get more fans to games.

“Three points would be massive for us, as they would be any team, at this time of the year.’’

Socceroo Mitchell Duke (pictured above at training today), who made his debut in Gosford last week playing a few minutes, will run out for his first home game for the Bulls, a factor that ought boost turnstile activity at Campbelltown Stadium tomorrow night. Kick off is scheduled for 7.35pm.
