Next Monday night’s clash with the Central Coast Mariners will be the last home game of the year for Macarthur FC.
It will also be head coach Mile Sterjovski’s 50th game in charge of Macarthur FC.
His record going into this game is 16 wins, 13 draws and 20 defeats, and no doubt Sterjovski would like to add one more victory to that statistical column.
It’s still too early to tip that the former Socceroo will join Australia’s growing list of great coaches.
But there are signs that Sterjovski is a keen student of the game.
In the Bulls fabulous 2-1 win over Wellington Phoenix in New Zealand last Saturday, his side was just lethal once inside the box.
That’s because the forwards swarm inside the box once a rapid transition takes place, either from the edges or even the middle of the field.
The final pass doesn’t always end up where it was intended, but practice makes perfect.
Against the Phoenix it was this play that led to the Bulls receiving a spot kick for a handball five minutes into the first half.
Valere Germain promptly tapped the ball into the net off the rebound, and the Bulls went to a 1-0 lead.
The teams went to the dressing sheds at 1-1 for the half time break because the home side found an equaliser just before the first 45 minutes were up.
The second stanza was characterised by momentum changing as the Bulls and the Phoenix tried to find the winner.
But it was Macarthur who would leave with the three premiership points, and again off a play inside the box.
About half way through the second half, the Bull were attacking inside the box when a Marin Jakolis pass found teenager Dean Bosnjak, and, boom, 2-1.
It was Bosnjak’s first goal in the big league, but it was so well executed it could have been his 50th.
Looking at how he plays, as well as his composure in scoring a goal, this kid could be something.
Bulls, sign Dean up for 10 years is my tip.
The game against the Mariners next Monday, December 23 at Campbelltown Stadium will kick off at 7pm.
