Budget boost: local MP Angus Taylor with Education Minister Simon Birmingham.

The federal budget had delivered on infrastructure, education and road safety, says Angus Taylor, the member for Hume, which includes a big part of the Macarthur region.

The federal budget means that local residents and business owners will have new opportunities for jobs and investment through infrastructure projects starting this year, says the Federal Member for Hume.

Angus Taylor said infrastructure highlights of the Budget for his electorate included the following initiatives:

• A new government owned company charged with ensuring Western Sydney Airport is operational by 2026 at Badgerys Creek;

• $50 million for Appin Road upgrades – work to commence this year;

• $53 million to Narellan Road for ongoing upgrade;

• $1.2 billion for The Northern Road upgrade;

• $4.018 million for Camden Valley Way and Argyle Street upgrade to be completed in the new financial year;

• $350,000 for the Touched by Olivia playground at Warragamba.

On education, Mr Taylor said the electorate’s 79 schools will benefit from the Turnbull Government’s new $18.6 billion needs-based schools funding plan.

No schools in Hume will have a reduction in Commonwealth funding in 2018, he said.

“Our reforms will set the electorate’s schools up for the future and deliver fair, needs-based funding for all students,” Mr Taylor said.

“We’re delivering the real ‘Gonski’ needs-based funding model that Labor didn’t.”

Mr Taylor said the 79 schools in Hume – comprising 64 Government, 10 Catholic and 5 Independent schools – would receive $104 million in 2018, or an average of $4437 per student.

This would represent an increase of 4.7 per cent on 2017 funding ($99.3 million).

Estimated Commonwealth funding for Hume schools would increase to $108.8 million in 2019, $113.8 million in 2020 and $118.8 million in 2021.

“Our plan factors in the background, family life, levels of disability and socioeconomic status of each student and school to ensure funding is truly needs-based and fair.”

Mr Taylor said road safety in Hume will be improved, with almost $3.5 million in Black Spot Program funding allocated to seven local projects confirmed in last night’s budget.

  1. Now I know why Sydney Airport did not want to build Badgery Creek, they had lined up the Turnbull Government to build it and then they will buy it at half price like they did Mascot. The Liberals believe in flogging public monopoly assets to their mates but keep things that can’t make a dollar like the outback train they are to build in public hands so the ordinary workers pays for it. The WestConnex will be flogged to someone like Transurban at a fraction of its cost with guaranteed increases of 4.5% per year.
