Excellent initiative: Local people with disabilities can now enjoy the fun of a carnival with council’s initiative, “Quiet Carnival Hour’’.

Everyone loves the excitement of a carnival, but for people with disability and their families it can be challenging to navigate the crowds, queue for rides and enjoy the atmosphere.

That’s why this year’s Festival of Fisher’s Ghost carnival will introduce a new initiative, the “Quiet Carnival Hour’’, to give people with disability exclusive access to the event for one hour on two Sundays, November 4 and 11.

Quiet Carnival Hour will allow adults, youth and children with disability access to the carnival from 10.30am to 11.30am with their family or carers, where they can ride for free and enjoy the atmosphere with less noise and crowds. Bookings are essential and numbers are limited.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, encouraged all people with disability to take advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the Fisher’s Ghost carnival without the crowds.

“Council is proud to partner with Joylands, to offer the Quiet Carnival Hour so that they can enjoy the Festival of Fisher’s Ghost Carnival,” he said.

“For one hour on each Sunday morning of the carnival, those who have pre-booked will be able to attend the carnival with their family for free.

“We will be limiting the numbers, keeping the noise of music and rides down, stopping PA announcements, less lights and the rides will be free.

“There will also be a quiet tent for relaxing, which will include some sensory activities.

“The format of our existing events can often be adapted and enhanced to ensure they are even more inclusive, and this is an example of just that.

“Quiet Carnival hour is our latest initiative to ensure people with disability, their families and carers are supported and welcomed in all areas of our community’s life.”
