“We know that in most countries, including Australia, the health of males is generally poorer than the health of females, and as a community we should do all we can to improve health outcomes for men,” says the mayor of Campbelltown, George Brticevic.

Speaking on the eve of the annual Men’s Health Week promotion, Cr Brticevic said: “Activities and events held as part of awareness campaigns like Men’s Health Week are an important part of raising awareness about preventable health problems, and encouraging early detection and treatment of diseases.”

He said he was pleased Campbelltown City Council was highlighting the importance of men’s health, and encouraged men and boys to attend a special event later this month to learn more about keeping healthy.

Campbelltown City Council will aim to make a positive difference to lives of men and boys when it hosts the Men’s Health Week event at Eagle Vale Central on Thursday, June 15.

Men’s Health Week will run between June 12 and 18.

This year’s theme, Healthy Body – Healthy Mind: Keeping the Balance, will highlight the ways men and boys keep healthy, physically and emotionally, in a busy and sometimes challenging world.

Guest speaker Dr Stefania Penkala, a senior lecturer at Western Sydney University who specialises in podiatric medicine, will lead a discussion about mobility and physical engagement.

Those who attend will also have the opportunity to tour the aquatic and fitness facility, and men and boys who attend will receive a free showbag, including health flyers and contacts, and a seven day free fitness and swim pass redeemable at any council leisure centre until July 31.

The event will run from 5.30pm to 7pm at Eagle Vale Central, corner of Emerald Drive and Feldspar Road, Eagle Vale.

Bookings are essential by calling 4645 4266.
