Wollondilly Support & Community Care looks set to expand its services, especially Meals on Wheels, after receiving a $50,000 grant from the NSW Government.

State Member for Wollondilly Jai Rowell, Vivienne Cruickshank, manager of volunteer services and finance, and Matthew Affleck, manager of client services and marketing, jointly announced the Community Building Partnership grant.

“This is going to be major,’’ said Vivienne Cruickshank.

“It’s a change we’ve been looking at for probably six months.

“We’d like to go into production – we’ve been cooking our own meals in the office for probably about a year and a half and that’s been successful.

“Our clients love a home cooked meal.

“Meals on Wheels is a service, as Matthew said earlier, that we are reaching out to those clients who don’t have a lot of family around and we call in and check on them.

“If we can supply a nutritionally balanced meal, that’s all the better,’’ Ms Cruickshank said.

[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“This is absolutely exciting – Wollondilly Support and Community Care are run by the community for the community and they serve something like 2,500 square kilometres with more than 300 clients,’’ Mr Rowell said.[/social_quote]

“The $50,000 the NSW Government will be providing today will help expand their kitchen to provide even more services for our community.

“Wollondilly Support & Community Care serves over 70 people in our community every week.

“Plain and simple, it’s critical to invest in our community service partners.”

Matthew Affleck said: “Meals on Wheels is one of our most important services to get out to the people, especially the socially isolated.’’

Wollondilly Support & Community Care services include a social support group, Meals on Wheels and telephone and web based monitoring services and accompanied activities, such as assisting people doing their shopping, paying bills or attending appointments and other activities.

“I’d like to thank Lisa [Smith], the CEO and the whole team at Wollondilly Support and Community Care, but also the volunteers who make all of this possible,” Mr Rowell said.
