Campbelltown MP Greg Warren has used a Private Member’s Statement in Parliament to highlight an increase in waiting times for elective surgery at Campbelltown Hospital.
“Despite the goodwill and professional contribution of many wonderful staff in hospitals around the State and at Campbelltown Hospital, waiting times for elective surgery have continued to increase,’’ Mr Warren said.
He pointed out that in 2011 more than 66,000 people were on the waiting list for elective surgery in NSW. Now there are more than 74,000 people on the waiting list.
And more than 1,600 locals are on the waiting list for elective surgery at Campbelltown Hospital.
“I am further alarmed at the statistics for emergency waiting times at Campbelltown Hospital; approximately 35 per cent of people are waiting four hours and more to receive emergency care,’’ he said.

“I have heard complaints that malfunctioning equipment has forced patients to travel outside the area to Liverpool for treatment, and there are many more complaints.’’
The State Member for Campbelltown also asked the Lower House of the NSW Parliament to join him in acknowledging the Campbelltown Hospital Auxiliary on its record donation this year to Campbelltown Hospital of more than $102,000.
“The Campbelltown Hospital Auxiliary was started in 1953,’’ Mr Warren told the House.
“Since then it has raised thousands of dollars every year to buy much-needed equipment for Campbelltown Hospital.
“In the past five years the group has raised more than $375,000, which has gone towards improving the standard of care for patients at the hospital.
“I have had the privilege of seeing the wonderful work that president Jan Drayton and secretary Gail Smith and other members do for the local hospital.

“Their efforts have clearly paid off and the money they have raised is much appreciated by the hospital staff, management and patients.
