Camden Council has been commended for innovation and initiative in creating the Birriwa Reserve Outdoor Youth Space.
The annual Parks and Leisure Australia Awards of Excellence awards acknowledge best practice in the industry.
Camden Council was awarded a high commendation for the youth space in the category of Playspace over $500,000.
“Birriwa is a project that has transformed an underutilised site into an adventure haven for older children, teenagers and families alike,” Mayor Lara Symkowiak said.
“The project delivered on Camden Council’s vision to create a facility specifically for 10 to 17 year olds which continues to be extremely popular within our community,” Cr Symkowiak said.
“I would like to congratulate council’s Birriwa project team who worked extremely hard to bring this fantastic project to life,” she said.
Council is now engaging the community on two new water play parks and two additional youth spaces in areas across Camden.

♦ The community has until the end of today [Monday, June 5] to have its say on a new playground planned for Queen Street Reserve, Narellan. Council has allocated $305,000 to design and construct the playground and install the equipment.
The design of the playground has a majestic theme in keeping with the reserve name and includes play equipment that looks like a castle guard tower, medieval style of adventure equipment and a net swing shaped like a trebuchet.
Spring base horses, a flying fox and climbing cables are also included.
New seating, shelter, landscaping and security fencing will also be installed as part of the works.
