Big plans: Bigge Park will be transformed under the council plans.

Local residents and businesses can look and comment on the plans for the revitalisation of Bigge Park with the development application on exhibition now.

Work is expected to begin in early 2016 and council will:

• Install new fitness stations

• New children’s play area

• Install new park furniture

• Construct a circular contemplation walk

• Upgrade pathways around and across the park to link destinations around the park

• Improve park lighting to make it safer

• Install a heritage forecourt to reconnect the park with its history including the 1820s colonial Georgian building commissioned by Governor Lachlan Macquarie

• Install a water play park on the site of the Liverpool bowling club.

“Bigge Park is the city centre’s most important open space, providing a green lung as well as connecting the central shopping district with the hospital, TAFE and railway station on the park’s boundaries,” Mayor Ned Mannoun said.

“It’s also the site of some of our great annual events including Spring Expo and Harmony Day, and Council’s weekday exercise classes – Live Life Active – which anyone is welcome to join.

“Our plans for Bigge Park will extend its size (with the removal of the bowling club) and enhance its use with new fitness stations and a children’s water play area.
