A cultural event with a difference is coming to Macarthur: The Bangladeshi Food Festival on Sunday, August 7 will showcase the food and culture of Bangladesh over six hours inside the Greg Percival Community Centre, Ingleburn.

But the event will do much more than that, because a big part of the reason it is being held is to raise funds for local homeless services and the victims of recent damaging floods in Bangladesh.

Ingleburn Rotary Club has joined forces with the Chattogram Club Australia to run the festival, and a joint committee has been formed ahead of the August 7 event.

In a media release, the Bangladeshi Food Festival Committee said entry will be free and the day will include live entertainment, Bangladeshi food, arts and crafts and much more.

“The purpose of the festival is not only to showcase Bangladeshi food and culture, but more importantly to raise funds to help vulnerable people in need,’’ the committee said.

“We invite everyone in our community to attend, enjoy and contribute to help people in need.

“We are thankful for the support from Campbelltown City Council, the Ingleburn RSL Club and Mezbani Restaurant, who have been alongside us on many local community projects in the past.’’

Syed Akram Ullah is co-ordinator of the Bangladeshi Food Festival committee, which also includes the current president of Rotary Club of Ingleburn Bill Salter and Sheikh Salahuddin, president of Chattogram Club Australia.

“As individuals we can only do small things, but as a club, with members’ involvement, we can have an immense effect in supporting the community,’’ the committee said in the media release.

“However, when we join with another club with similar views and ambitions, we can do extraordinary things within our communities.’’
