Nominations have now opened for the 2018 Campbelltown City Australia Day Awards.

Locals are being encouraged to put the spotlight on anyone they know who has stood out academically or in the sporting area, or who have performed a great service to the community.

The annual awards give community members and employers the opportunity to acknowledge significant contributions by nominating worthy recipients.

There are four award categories including Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Sportsperson of the Year and Community Group Initiative of the Year.

Nominees must be Australian citizens and live in the Campbelltown Local Government Area, and community organisations must be based locally.

Recipients will be selected based on a range of criteria, including the type and quality of service, educational and sporting achievement, and individual acts of excellence, compassion, generosity or bravery.

Award recipients will be announced as part of Australia Day celebrations on January 26, 2018.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, who will be handing out council’s Australia Day honours for the second year in a row, said Campbelltown City was known for its outstanding community spirit, rallying behind fundraisers and lending support to those who needed a hand up.

“Council’s Australia Day Awards celebrate this community spirit, as well as recognising our unsung heroes – people who often shy away from the limelight – their causes, organisations and sporting clubs,” he said.

“We know there are many worthy recipients in our community, and I encourage locals to take the opportunity to nominate someone who has made a difference for recognition on Australia’s national day.”

Nominations will be accepted until Friday, November 24.
