Our flag will be flying high on Australia Day 2016.

South west Sydney councils are gearing up for another terrific Australia Day on Tuesday, January 26, 2016.

Campbelltown will continue to hold two celebrations plus a fireworks finish at 9pm, while Liverpool’s will again be at Woodward Park where a stack of awards will be handed out by the mayor.

Camden’s celebrations will feature a thong throwing competition, among other activities.

In Campbelltown, official proceedings will get things under way at Koshigaya Park from 8am, including a citizenship ceremony, raising the Australian flag, announcing the citizens of the year as well as a barbecue breakfast.

At Hallinan Park, Ingleburn, the festivities will take place between 11am to 2pm and will also include a citizenship ceremony, free morning tea and barbecue, as well as games and activities for the kids.

Both events will feature a visit from Campbelltown’s 2016 Australia Day Ambassador, Dr Joanna McMilan – one of Australia’s best-known nutrition and healthy lifestyle experts.

The celebrations at Koshigaya will continue from 4pm to 9.30pm with a variety of free rides, stalls, a free barbecue and a fantastic line-up of live stage entertainment, including the Macarthur Talent Showcase, featuring a host of talented local performers, and Skippy’s Outback Adventures stage show for kids.

As the sun sets on our national day, residents can groove into the night listening to the cool sounds of Bump City and Billabong Jam, before the energetic Endless Summer Beach Party Band take to the stage to perform their own version of classic and current party hits.

A fireworks spectacular is scheduled for 9pm.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Paul Hawker, said Australia Day was a chance to reflect on what is great about our country and our local community.
