Looking for a great way to celebrate Australia Day?
Campbelltown City Council is inviting locals to one of the biggest community events of the year on Friday, January 26, when it hosts a huge day of entertainment and activities across two locations.
There’ll be something for everyone at Koshigaya Park, Campbelltown, and Hallinan Park in Ingleburn.
Celebrations will kick off with official proceedings in Koshigaya Park between 8am and 10am.
There will be a barbecue breakfast, flag-raising, a visit from the 2018 Campbelltown City Australia Day Ambassador, award winning sports journalist Michael Tomalaris, the local Australia Day Award winners presentation and a citizenship ceremony.
Celebrations at Ingleburn will be hosted from 11am to 2pm in the Greg Percival Community Centre.
An address by the Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic and a citizenship ceremony will be followed by games and entertainment that will take place in adjacent Hallinan Park from 12pm, with a variety of Aussie-themed activities and performances.
There’ll also be plenty to do across Campbelltown City’s three leisure centres on Australia Day, with half-price swim entry ($3 adults and $2 children/concession) between 9.30am and 5pm, in addition to a jumping castle at each facility from 10am to 1pm, sack races, games and pool inflatables – at Macquarie Fields Leisure Centre from 9.30am to 12.30pm; Gordon Fetterplace Aquatic Centre from 10.30am to 1.30pm; and Eagle Vale Central from 11.30am to 2.30pm.
The celebrations at Koshigaya Park will recommence from 4pm, with carnival rides, stalls and a great line-up of live stage entertainment, coming to a close with a fireworks display at 9pm.
Cr Brticevic said Australia Day in Campbelltown City would be a lot of fun, and encouraged the community to come along and celebrate with family and friends.
“Australia Day is a great opportunity to make the most of our great Aussie weather with barbecues, rides, stalls, stage entertainment and Aussie-themed activities, to salute our residents who have gone that extra mile for their community, and to welcome our newest citizens,” he said.
Both Australia Day events are drug and alcohol free, and police will be enforcing Alcohol Free Zones – no alcohol of any kind will be permitted in the event areas.
