There is less than a week left to check out how the worlds of art and science collide at the Australian PlantBank.
Seedartlab: Seeds through an artist’s lens, a free exhibition by Australian Botanic Garden Mt Annan artist in residence, Sophie Munns, offers a rare glimpse into the world of conservation through a variety of mediums.
These include digital photography, stencil and paint, and follows the journey of the seed in science, from plant to petri-dish.
The exhibition ends on March 29.
Science manager at the PlantBank, Cathy Offord, explains the value in Sophie Munns’ new and unusual artworks.
“The unique exhibition is the first of its kind at the PlantBank facility and the result of three consecutive PlantBank residencies,’’ says Ms Offord.
“It is the cumulative effort of hours of intensive engagement on site, in conversation with staff and learning about the vital programs at the extraordinary science research facility.
“Sophie is extremely passionate about conservation and this shows in her unique art, but more importantly Sophie’s art helps us to convey the message of conservation and its importance to the continuation of our planet to the broader community.
“We invited Sophie here to be part of the National Seed Science Forum which we hosted here at the Australian Botanic Garden on March 14-16.
“This important conference included speakers from around the world who all have conservation at the core of their work.”
