My Gateway, the Macarthur based apprentices and trainees organisation, has experienced remarkable growth in the first quarter of this year.

There have been 12 new host employers sign up with My Gateway during this period, in a sign that Macarthur businesses are brimming with confidence despite the persistence of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Apprentices and trainees help businesses grow and future-proof their industries, which is vital given the challenges many industries faced as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic,” says My Gateway CEO, Shelley Bullock.

“We look forward to working long-term with these new businesses and encourage others to contact us to see how we can work together to generate positive outcomes for them,’’ Ms Bullock said.”

One of the new host employers linking up with My Gateway is labour hire company CK Recruitment, which operates out of Dumaresq Street in the Campbelltown city centre.

Cassie Greenland, one of the founders of the company, says that through the pandemic of 2020 a lot of casuals lost their positions.

“But we deal in the waste industries and with local councils, so luckily it didn’t last too long and most of them were back to work fairly quickly,’’ says Ms Greenland.

“For now, we are busier then what we were prior to the pandemic, so it is a really positive sign that things are getting back to normal.’’

Ms Greenland says the decision to link up with My Gateway and take on a business admin trainee was a little personal.

“I have a 16 year old daughter and she was interested in gaining some work experience working with animals because she is wanting to become a vet.

“But she was not even given the opportunity and I saw how that made her feel disheartened, and it just really made me want to give someone on the job experience as well as qualifications.

“My Gateway has been a company that I have been aware of for years and I just felt when we started to get busier after the pandemic that it was time to utilise their services,’’ Ms Greenland said.

Established in 1982 in Campbelltown as Macarthur Group Training Ltd, My Gateway are governed by a board of directors, including representatives from the business community and the Camden, Campbelltown and Wollondilly councils.

Head office is in the Centric building, Park Central, in the heart of Campbelltown.

My Gateway places apprentices, trainees and school based apprentices and trainees (SBATs) with host businesses, such as CK Recruitment, to develop their industry skills and experience.

All the paperwork, monitoring, course study requirements, workers compensation and performance management is done by My Gateway.

Cassie Greenland says CK Recruitment, which has been going for seven years, is going so well it will certainly be looking to take on more trainees in the future.

“Currently we only have the one business admin traineeship through My Gateway, but we are hoping that we can work more with our clients and My Gateway to get some more positions,’’ Mr Greenland said.
