And the election winner is: Lomandra community pantry

After Saturday’s big victory, Campbelltown MP Greg Warren realised there was a stack of volunteers’ election day snacks left over in his office.

So one of the first things he did after winning four more years with an impressive 10 percent swing to him, was drop off a tub full of goodies at the Lomandra Community Pantry.

The tub contained packets of popcorn, muesli bars and lollies – all the staple foods of an election volunteer.

“Election day is long, long day for the many volunteers that help hand out flyers at the many election booths throughout Campbelltown,’’ Mr Warren said.

“Snacks like popcorn, muesli bars and lollies give the volunteers a much needed energy and sugar boost to help them soldier on throughout the day.

“However, post-election, I realised there was a large abundance of snacks left over so I thought why not give them to the Lomandra Community Pantry.’’

The pantry – formed by Lomandra School – was opened late last year.

The school originally formed its Lomandra Grow Together program 10 years ago in order to provide food hampers for students and their families.

However, the program grew in popularity to the point where 250 hampers per week were being handed out to students and families from 17 schools throughout the Macarthur region.

To cater for the growing needs of local families, the school leased out a factory located at 4/5 Hollylea Road, Leumeah and named it the Lomandra Community Pantry.

Organisations including Oz Harvest, Good360, ALDI and Big W have come on board and donated supplies to the pantry.

“The community pantry do a tremendous job supporting our local residents and this was just a small gesture I felt would help those at the pantry,’’ Mr Warren said.

“If you haven’t been down the pantry at 4/5 Hollylea Road I urge you to do so.”
