Two Ambarvale stepsisters have turned to TAFE NSW to help them pursue careers in graphic design, at a time when the industry is booming.
With jobs growth in Australia’s creative sector almost double that of other occupations, Nicole Carino Pangilinan and Chanel Bohol are joining the industry at the right time.
Nicole, 22, completed a Diploma of Graphic Design at TAFE NSW Campbelltown and has since gained employment locally as a junior graphic designer at AMR Hair and Beauty Supplies.
“I’ve always known I wanted to do something creative as a career, so after moving to Australia from Spain with my family a few years ago, I enrolled in the TAFE NSW Certificate III in Graphic Design, and then went on to complete the diploma,” Nicole said.
“The teachers were so supportive and really wanted me to succeed, and I enjoyed gaining hands-on, technical skills which helped me land a job in my chosen field.”
After taking a gap year, Chanel, 20, decided to enrol in the Diploma of Graphic Design at TAFE NSW Campbelltown to hone her design skills.
“The TAFE NSW course has helped me to develop my creative style and will open the door for me to pursue a career in graphic design, like my stepsister Nicole,” Chanel said.
TAFE NSW head teacher of design Emma Lawes said the diploma of graphic design opens up rewarding career pathways in creative fields.
“Nicole and Chanel are prime examples of the opportunities TAFE NSW provides those looking to strengthen their creative and technical design skills and gain a nationally recognised qualification,” Ms Lawes said.
“Students will learn valuable skills such as digital illustration techniques, hand drawing and illustration, 3D design and construction, and how to work through the design process from initial design to final product.”
