Catch a carp day
The Catch a carp competition is one of the popular environmental activities of the next six months.

Locals with a passion for the environment will be well catered over the next six months.

Among other things, the Macarthur Centre for Sustainable Living will host several free workshops and there will be plenty of environmental events residents can get involved in, including Earth Hour which will be held from 8.30pm to 9.30pm on Saturday, March 25.

There’s also the Catch a Carp competition on Sunday, April 2 and the Dharawal Indigenous Guided Walks, which will be on from next month.

All of this and much more are included in Campbelltown City Council’s January to June 2017 calendar of activities, workshops and awareness campaigns.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, said local residents were lucky enough to live in an area of significant natural beauty, with pristine bushland and waterways, and prolific wildlife, not too far from where they live.

“There are lots of opportunities for residents to get outdoors and connect with nature, including bird-watching, swimming, bushwalking and volunteering with one of council’s Bushcare groups,” he said.

Cr Brticevic said council was always looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join its Bushcare groups and participate in activities such as tree planting, wildlife spotting, erosion control, weed management and cleaning up litter in bushland.

“Council has several Bushcare groups which work at different locations throughout the local government area,” he said.

“Bushcare volunteers are a vital part of council’s overall environmental program, and aim to preserve and rehabilitate local bushland areas to ensure our current and future residents can continue to connect to the natural environment.”
