Activities galore to celebrate International Women’s Day

A wealth of activities which aim to inspire and empower women will be held across Campbelltown City during March in celebration of International Women’s Day.

Campbelltown City Council, with the support of local businesses and service providers, has compiled a calendar of International Women’s Day events, which includes a diverse range of activities – from fitness and self defence classes, to a legal rights talk and a trivia night.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, encouraged local women to take the opportunity to enjoy some of the great activities which will be held across the city.

“Council is proud the Campbelltown community has embraced International Women’s Day, and will recognise and celebrate the valuable contribution of women with a fantastic range of activities,” he said.

International Women’s Day will be acknowledged globally on Wednesday, March 8 when council will host a number of activities including:

• A free Women’s Fit Camp, at Eagle Vale Centre from 12.30pm to 1.30pm. The one hour high intensity workout and boot camp is designed specifically for women. Bookings: 4645 4255.

• A free spin class, and the opportunity to find out about the other activities available at Macquarie Fields Leisure Centre from 6pm to 7pm. Bookings:  4645 4255.

• A Cook It! Macarthur workshop, in partnership with the Macarthur Centre for Sustainable Living, to show participants how to avoid food waste in the home through thoughtful purchasing, helpful storage techniques, portion sizing and sharing simple and fun recipes that will help to use up leftovers. The free workshop will be held at Council’s Training Centre from 10am to midday. Bookings: 4647 9828.

• A series of free Cultural Food Walking Tours, in partnership with Macarthur Diversity Services Initiative, on March 9, 16 and 30 March. Participants will enjoy a variety of foods and experience the diverse cultures of Campbelltown. The tours start at Campbelltown Arts Centre and run from 11am to 2pm. Bookings: 4627 1188.

• A free Basic Car Maintenance workshop on Friday, March 17. The workshop is aimed at providing women with skills and information around basic car servicing and safety. It will be held at the HJ Daley Library from 10am to midday. Bookings: 4645 4444.
