Historic buildings along Queen Street: do you have photos taken 100 years ago?

Do you have any photographs that depict Campbelltown in its early years?

Campbelltown City Library is seeking images of Campbelltown’s past to add to its photographic database, as part of an ongoing project to record the history of the region.

The library is especially interested in images of Campbelltown before WWI, although photographs taken after WWI and up until the 1980s would also be appreciated.

Images that depict street scenes, buildings or people going about their daily lives are sought.

The library will gratefully accept original images, or will make copies and return the originals to the owner. Collections will be acknowledged on the library’s photographic database.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Paul Hawker, said it was important to document the history of the area and record the places, spaces and landmarks that defined Campbelltown.

[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“Campbelltown is growing rapidly, so even photos taken 30 years ago are important records of the streetscapes and landscapes that distinguish Campbelltown from other cities,” Cr Hawker said.[/social_quote]

“Photographs are important historical records of our city and our culture, and council is keen to increase the library’s collection.

“Images provide a connection to our past and help us to understand our heritage and appreciate our achievements,” Cr Hawker said.
