Liverpool Council has announced a major plan to open 49 new CBD parking spaces and a new road to cater for a proposed dining strip along Macquarie Street.
The plans will cater for the transformation of the southern end of Macquarie Street which will be redeveloped into a popular restaurant zone called Eat Street.
That strip of Macquarie Street, between Scott Street and Terminus Street, is already home to several dining outlets such as Rashay’s and D’Roost, while prestige eatery Gemelle is around the corner in Bathurst Street.
The three stage process will see Bathurst Street extended between Terminus Street and Macquarie Street, and Pirie Street closed to traffic to allow for the permanent relocation of the temporary parking spots.
These changes – provided they receive NSW Roads and Maritime Services approval – would pave the way for the redevelopment of the southern end of Macquarie Street which will be turned into a popular dining destination known as Eat Street.
It is anticipated the temporary car park at 360 Macquarie Street will open to the public by the first week of December and the new Bathurst Street extension completed by 2017.
Council will then plan for the closure of Pirie Street in consultation with NSW Roads and Maritime Services before putting in place a proposal to relocate the Macquarie Street carpark.
Liverpool Mayor Ned Mannoun said the changes are all part Liverpool Council’s bigger plan to revitalise the CBD.

“Not only will visitors and residents have access to these wonderful new restaurants right here in the heart of Liverpool, but they will also have a new place to park and improved access to the CBD courtesy of an extension to Bathurst Street and the closure of Pirie Street.”
