Campbelltown City Council has introduced a new learn and play program for families in the Ambarvale and Rosemeadow areas, combining educational play and fun story time activities for kids with information and community connections for mums and dads.
Ambar-Rose Learn and Play is a supported playgroup session for children aged 0-5 years, focusing on school readiness for 4-5 year olds, and parenting and family support.
The two hour play session will be held every Wednesday morning, during school terms, from 10am to midday at the Benevolent Society, Rosemeadow. Early Childhood Educators will run the playgroup and provide information and referrals to other local community services such as child health and child assessment agencies.
Visits from local health professionals, such as speech and occupational therapists, are also planned to help parents gain knowledge about their child’s development, expected milestones and behaviours.
Families will also have the opportunity to borrow toys, books and other resources from Council’s Mobile Toy and Book Library.
Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Paul Hawker, said council was committed to creating a supportive community for parents by providing a range of local activities and groups for families to access.
“Ambar-Rose Learn and Play is a great initiative for families with young children,’’ he said.
[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“Children will have the opportunity to interact with other children and parents will gain information about their child’s development and school readiness, and how to access professional care if it’s needed,” Cr Hawker said.[/social_quote]
“We know that parenting can be challenging and we want to help families raise happy, healthy children.
“People are happier and healthier when they feel connected, and parents are often able to manage better when they have the support of community networks,” Cr Hawker said.
Ambar-Rose Learn and Play is part of the Communities for Children Initiative, funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services. For more information, visit the website or phone 4645 4723.
