Twelve months after launching it, Campbelltown Mayor Darcy Lound has hailed the success of the Better Communities Program.
In a Mayoral Minute set to be tabled at tonight’s council meeting, he says recent highlights of the program include the new amenities building at Bensley Road Reserve.
Others he lists were:
• Tree planting events at Cook Reserve and Milton Park (pictured above).
• Upgraded change room facilities at Campbelltown Sports Stadium.
• Continued work on the new café at the Billabong Parklands.
• Progressed the new Koshigaya Park Playground.
• Started upgrades at the Macquarie Fields Leisure Centre splash park.
• Completed upgrades at Ingleburn Reserve, including footpaths, walking paths and tree plantings.
• Holding many face-to-face engagement activities, inviting the community to have their say on important projects and plans, as well delivering a range of successful community events, workshops and forums.
“It has been 12 months since I launched the Better Communities Program as a way of strengthening the connection between Council and our community, focussing on projects, services and improvements being delivered across Campbelltown,’’ he writes in the Mayoral Minute.
“At its heart, the program is about ensuring our residents can see the difference Council is making, understand how decisions are being shaped, and have opportunities to contribute to the future of our city.’’
Cr Lound says the program is guided by four key focus areas: protecting the environment, connecting people to place, supporting active lifestyles, and fostering meaningful community engagement.
“Over the past year, we have continued to make progress across each of these areas, delivering projects that respond to community priorities while helping to create a more vibrant, livable and sustainable Campbelltown.
“Our commitment to the environment remains strong, with ongoing work to protect important natural areas, improve local green spaces and enhance the city’s urban landscape.
“At the same time, we have continued investing in infrastructure that improves accessibility, safety and connectivity for residents across our suburbs.
“We are also focused on ensuring our parks, sporting facilities and public spaces continue to meet the needs of a growing community.
By upgrading facilities and providing new opportunities for recreation and healthy activity, we are helping to support active lifestyles and strengthen community wellbeing.’’
