Bernardo scores and it’s 1-0 to the Bulls in what turned out to be a nine goal thriller in Newcastle.

Less than 24 hours after their incredible 5-4 win over Newcastle Jets, the Bulls revealed one of the club’s biggest player signings: Socceroo star Mitch Duke.

The big centre forward joins Macarthur FC for the rest of the 2025-26 A-League season.

Duke will be a massive boost as the Bull push hard to win the premiership for the first time – and perhaps go deep in Asian Champions League 2.

They’re currently in equal third sport on the A-League ladder after two wins and two draws from their past four matches.

It is not clear yet when Duke will make his debut for the Bulls, but it’s more than likely it will be at Campbelltown on Saturday, January 10, when Macarthur FC will host Sydney FC.

Before that the Bulls have matches against Wanderers at Parramatta on Thursday, January 1, and then at home to host Auckland FC on Monday, January 5.

Born and raised in South West Sydney, Duke has made more than 50 appearances for Australia, scoring 13 goals, including his memorable match-winner against Tunisia at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

He will bring a wealth of experience and a proven goalscoring record to the Bulls, and will be the perfect mentor for some of the young rising stars at Campbelltown.

“It feels so good to join Macarthur, and to know it’s literally where all my family are based around is special being able to play in front of family and friends,” Duke said after signing for the Bulls.

“I can’t wait to get started.”

Perhaps Duke can start by watching a replay of Friday night’s amazing match at Newcastle, won with a Luke Vickery goal with seconds to spare.

The Bulls opened the scoring after 15 minutes, with the home side equalizing in the 41st minute.

Dean Bosnjak made it 2-1 in time added on, but three minutes into the second half Newcastle made it 2-2.

It took just two minutes for the Bulls to go ahead again at 3-2, and then made it 4-2 when Harry Sawyer tapped the ball in and setting off for a goal celebration like no other.

Big Harry got a ball boy to jump on his back and then spread his arms to imitate a plane, to wild cheers from the crowd (pictured below).

The home team weren’t done though, scoring twice to make it 4-3 and then 4-4 with three minutes left of normal time.

Six minutes were added on, and they were almost done when the Bulls made one more raid on the Jets goal.

The ball ended up at the feet of the rampaging Luke Vickery on the right, who took two touches before smashing the ball into the back of the net for a famous 5-4 win.

There were 5,317 people in the stadium, a pity because this game deserved four times that, it was that good.
