Ticketing offence lands man in court on firearm, knife charges

A 34 year old man who was stopped by police for a ticketing offence at Macarthur railway station has appeared in court to face a raft of charges related to the contents of his bag, including being in possession of a firearm and a knife.

About 4.45pm yesterday (Thursday, October 30), officers from Campbelltown Police Transport Command were conducting patrols of the concourse area at Macarthur station when they spoke with the man.

While speaking with the man, police conducted a search of his backpack and allegedly located a single-shot improvised firearm, loaded with a .22 calibre bullet, along with a further 20 rounds of ammunition and a kitchen knife.

The man was arrested and taken to Campbelltown Police Station where he was charged with seven offences.

These were possessing an unauthorised pistol, having a loaded firearm in a public place, and acquire a pistol that was subject to a firearms prohibition order.

He was also charged with acquiring ammunition subject to a prohibition order, possessing ammunition without holding a licence or permit, being in custody of a knife in a public place and travel without valid ticket.

The accused was refused bail to appear before Campbelltown Local Court today (Friday, October 31).
