Top marks for residents who have embraced chemical cleanout

Campbelltown residents have embraced the annual household chemical cleanout with gusto.

Last year was a particularly big one, with almost 50 tons of hazardous and other “problem’’ waste dropped off by residents.

The cleanouts have been offered to residents by Campbelltown Council for almost 10 years – free of charge.

Community participation has been growing, leading to last year’s bumper haul.

The 2025 cleanout is fast approaching and council is calling on residents to get stuck into their spring cleaning and clear out their garages.

This year community members can dispose of their hazardous household chemicals on Sunday, September 28, from 9am to 3:30pm at council’s service centre, 59 Junction Road, Leumeah.

“Events like the household chemical cleanout give our community a safe and responsible way to get rid of harmful waste and unwanted chemicals that don’t belong in household bins,” says Mayor of Campbelltown Darcy Lound.

“I encourage everyone in the LGA to use this as chance to clear out their sheds, garages and cupboards and help keep the community safe from fire hazards as well as our local environment,” Cr Lound said.

Household quantities of the following items can be accepted: garden and pool chemicals, household cleaning products, hobby and craft chemicals, poisons and pesticides, motor fluids and fuels, motor and cooking oils, batteries, paint, gas bottles, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, and fluorescent globes and tubes.

Bookings are not required for this free service.

In the meantime, residents are encouraged to use the Community Recycling Centre on Hepher Road, Campbelltown, where many of the same items are accepted year-round and can be dropped off for free.
