The countdown has started to the 2024 local council elections with nominations open today for the September 14 poll.
Campbelltown, Camden and Wollondilly residents will be electing new councils.
In Liverpool, at this stage it looks highly likely that elections will be postponed and a public enquiry held into the running of that council.
Campbelltown Council will host a candidates forum on the evening of Monday, September 2.
A mayoral candidates forum will be hosted by the Wollondilly business chamber on Wednesday, August 28 in Picton Bowling Club.
There have been no reports of a similar event in the Camden local government area as yet.
Minister for Local Government Ron Hoenig is encouraging residents to throw their hats in the ring between now and when nominations will close at midday on Wednesday, August 14.
“Having been a mayor for more than 30 years myself, I can confidently say that serving your community as a councillor is a great honour and a deeply rewarding role,’’ he said.
“I have always been a passionate believer in local government because I know what a wonderful difference effective councils with strong leadership can have on the community.
“The elections next month are an opportunity for renewal and for newly elected councils across the state to shape the future of their local area,’’ Mr Hoenig said.
Once nominations close on August 14, the ballot draw will take place a day later at 2pm.
Prepoll voting will open on Saturday, September 7 and close on Friday, September 13.
The election is on the next day, Saturday, September 14, from 8am to 6pm.
