Merry Christmas Campbelltown, one of your own is now a world champion. Kya Stewart finished first at the 2023 World Monologue Games after winning the hearts and minds of judges and the public with her performance in the finals of the global competition for actors.
She is now one of just six actors to have been awarded this high level of achievement.
“My piece was about my Nan and the unforgettable impression she left on my life,’’ Ms Stewart said after her triumph.
“She is the reason I’m a storyteller and a big part of why I do what I do, so it really was about honouring her and doing her proud.
“I can happily say I have done that now.’’
“The judging process for the Monologue finals involved industry experts from across the globe, including renowned actors, film directors, and Emmy-winning casting directors.
Ms Stewart was awarded both judges and viewers’ choice throughout the competition.
The good news for her is that she is now set to star in an upcoming TV show, but unfortunately cannot say much more about it.
It does mean that she will be unable to attend Saturday night’s screening of Christmess – in which she had a small role – at Campbelltown arts centre.
“This has been such an amazing experience and one that I am grateful to have been a part of,’’ she said about winning the World Monologue Games.
“To be ranked alongside some of the most talented actors worldwide is a real honour and I’m so excited to have won!”
