The NSW Electoral Commission is still counting votes from last Saturday’s NSW state election, but Member for Campbelltown Greg Warren hasn’t allowed the grass to grow under his feet.
While he has not formally been declared the winner in Campbelltown, he has a huge 73.32 percent of the votes already counted, so he will be re-elected – it’s just a matter of time.
Mr Warren has been out and about in the community all this week, with yesterday a particularly busy schedule.
It included Mr Warren visiting Campbelltown Meals on Wheels, Appin Men’s Shed (pictured below), Appin Public School (pictured above), South West Academy of Sport, Lomandra Community Pantry, WILMA Women’s Health Centre, the team at Youth Solutions and Campbelltown RSL Sub Branch president, Warren Browning.
“I am a member who loves being on the ground, chatting to local residents about the issues that concern them,” he said.
“It is the best part about being the Member for Campbelltown.
“The teams at places like Campbelltown Meals on Wheels, WILMA and Lomandra Community Pantry, make a significant difference to the lives of many within our community.
“That is why I visit those organisations regularly to let them know their efforts are not only appreciated by me, but also by the many people they assist.”
Mr Warren said he was grateful to the community of Campbelltown for putting their faith in him once again.
“I am so humbled by the support of our wonderful community,” he said.
“Being the Member for Campbelltown is a privilege I have never taken for granted and never will,’’ he said.
In the previous four year term Mr Warren served in the shadow ministry with a triple portfolio of Western Sydney, Local Government and Veterans.
It is believed that tomorrow (Friday) Premier Chris Minns will formally ask Mr Warren and other members of the shadow ministry to serve as government ministers.
They include Macquarie Fields MP Anoulack Chanthivong, who held the finance and industry and trade portfolio in the previous term.
With counting of the votes slowing down to a crawl it is not clear when ministers will be sworn in, but it is expected to be late next week.
In the meantime, two outer South Western Sydney seats are still in the balance.
One is Holsworthy where Labor’s Mick Maroney has 49.32 percent of the two party count, with the Liberal Party candidate ahead with 50.68 percent. There are still 30,000 votes to be counted there.
In Wollondilly, with 22,000 votes still to be counted, Independent Judy Hannan is leading with 51.89 percent of the vote, while sitting Liberal MP Nat Smith is on 48.11 percent.
In other local seats and as counting continues, Labor’s Nathan Hagarty has stretched his lead over Labor.
With 23,000 votes still to be counted, he’s on 59.5 percent, while Camden mayor Therese Fedeli, the Liberal candidate, is on 40.41 percent.
And counting in the seat of Camden has confirmed the strong win for Labor and Sally Quinnell.
Ms Quinnell has 54.60 percent of the vote, while Peter Sidgreaves, the sitting Liebral MP is on 45.40, with 30,000 votes to be counted.
