A fish habitat will be established in the Nepean River at Spring Farm as part of a restoration project.

A grant of $154,000 to Camden Council from the NSW Government’s habitat action program will be used in several sections along the local government area of Camden.

Council has also received a grant under the NSW Government’s environmental trust restoration and rehabilitation program.

The funding will go towards preventative erosion measures to stabilise sections of the waterway along the Nepean River Cycleway and the Rotary Cowpasture Reserve.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said it was important to continue taking care of the local environment.

“Camden is lucky enough to be surrounded by the beautiful environment and the Nepean River is one of the most important aspects of our area,” Cr Fedeli said.

“Restoring a part of the river will not only be fantastic for the environment but will also allow locals to explore and enjoy what we have in our own backyard.

“I’d like to thank the NSW Government for their funding for the project and look forward to seeing its completion.”

The project will also include work to restore the critically endangered ecological community, river-flat eucalypt forest, through woody weed control and revegetation with native species including the nationally threatened Camden white gum.
