There’s no question that Tyrone Peachey is a good signing for Wests Tigers.
According to the club bosses, bringing Peachy to Wests Tigers is an example of its “disciplined and intentional recruitment’’ approach.
Personally, and many fans would agree, the “Peach’’ is a very skilful rugby league player who can cover several positions in the lineup.
However, fans would also agree that what the club badly needs is some big name signings, preferably State of Origin stars.
That’s because players like Tyrone Peachy cannot be expected to be the man who delivers a premiership to a club that hasn’t played finals for a decade.
Yes, he will be a good addition to the side, and I’m looking forward to seeing him in Wests Tigers colours.
Fact remains the club needs to transform itself into a club where big name players want to be, and for that to happen there have to be substantial changes at the front office.
Peachy, 30, who played three State of Origin games in the 2018 series, has signed a two year deal with the Tigers.
After starting his NRL career at Cronulla in 2013, Peachey joined Penrith in 2014. He played in 109 games for the Panthers before linking up with the Gold Coast Titans in 2019, where he has played 62 matches.
His representative achievements include six games for the Indigenous All Stars (2015-17, 19-21), as well as appearances for NSW City Origin and the Prime Minister’s XIII.
Capable of playing at lock, second row or anywhere in the halves, Peachey will bring experience and versatility to the Tigers. “I’m really excited to join the club and get stuck into work with Wests Tigers,” Peachey said.
“I’m pretty keen to work too with a lot of the young talent at the club,” he said.
