Hundreds of Campbelltown residents are receiving their Australian citizenship during online ceremonies over the coming weeks.
The first of 12 ceremonies were held yesterday and saw 128 people who came to Australia from countries including India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Egypt and the Philippines receive their citizenship.
“In 2020, 256 people were able to receive their citizenship despite the Covid-19 pandemic during online ceremonies so I’m delighted that we’re able to hold these online ceremonies again,” says mayor George Brticevic.
“As a child of Croatian migrants, I understand just how special it is to receive your citizenship and what it means to people who have committed themselves to being part of our community,” he said.
“Campbelltown is such a diverse community and I enjoy hearing the many amazing back stories of our new citizens during these ceremonies.”
In other news, young people in Campbelltown are being asked to participate in a survey to help council support local youth during the pandemic.
The survey aims to understand some of the challenges being faced by people under 30 in the LGA as well as the activities and actions that would help support them.
“The Covid-19 health restrictions have impacted our entire community in different ways,” says Cr Brticevic.
“This survey is a way of understanding some of the challenges being experienced by young people to help us create programs and activities that support their mental and physical wellbeing.
“We’re aiming to capture a broad range of young people, from children to teens and young adults.’’
Parents and teachers can also participate in the survey on behalf of their children or students.
Survey participants will go into the draw to win one of twenty $20 Prezzee eGift cards.
The survey closes on August 8. For more details visit the council website here.
