Historic Camden Showground will receive a long overdue facelift to modernise its facilities.
The Showground, which is located a stone’s throw from the centre of Camden, hosts major events, including the annual Camden Show.
It will be upgraded with a $700, 000 grant from the state government’s Crown lands showground stimulus funding program.
Work will include an upgrade to floodlighting, installation of event safety infrastructure, renewal and refurbishment of kiosk, grandstand seating, cattle stalls and fencing.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said the funding would go a long way to securing the future of the venue.
“Upgrades to Camden Showground will enhance community use and experience of the facility while also attracting more opportunities to be held in the Camden area,” Cr Fedeli said.
“We are lucky enough to have the Camden Show at the venue every year, and this funding will allow large events like the Show to be better equipped, removing the need for temporary solutions.
“It will also create a more event-friendly facility and I thank the NSW Government for their support and assistance and look forward to attending future events at the upgrade facility.”
The announcement comes after Camden Council was successful in receiving more than $20,000 to undertake upgrade works to improve electricity infrastructure at the venue as part of stage one funding last year.
Camden MP Peter Sidgreaves said this was a great result for the local community.
“The showground stimulus fund is supporting local infrastructure while providing jobs and supporting our local economy,” Mr Sidgreaves said.
“Our showground is a multi-use facility and this investment will ensure it can be enjoyed by generations to come.
“The NSW Government values the central role of showgrounds and we want to ensure they’re supported and modernised.”
