Three teams remain winless after the completion of Round 2 of the 2021 Group 6 premiership, Oakdale, Narellan and South West Goannas.
Mittagong and Picton opened their accounts on the weekend, while Thirlmere scraped past Oakdale in a tight battle on Saturday evening, with The Oaks posting their second win of the season on Sunday afternoon.
Picton defeat South West Goannas 58-6 at Onslow Oval on Saturday evening, despite a spirited effort from the Goannas in the second half.
The Oaks defeated Narellan 24-18 in the other match on Sunday afternoon at Dudley Chesham Oval.
On Sunday afternoon, Mittagong won the Corkery-Andrews Cup in a battle over Campbelltown City, in front of a healthy crowd at Mittagong Sportsground.
The Lions, pictured above during a drinks break, held on for a 20-18 win over the Kangaroos, but both sides will know they can improve following an early-season test against opposition which will likely figure at the business end of the season.
With a vocal home crowd on their side, the Lions jumped to an early lead when experienced centre Regan Economos scored after 10 minutes for a 4-0 lead.
In reply, Kangaroos fullback Rua Hona scored a first half double, giving City fans who made the trip south something to cheer about.
Hona’s first try put the Kangaroos ahead on the scoreboard at 6-4 halfway in the first stanza.
His second just before the break had the visitors leading 12-4.
However the home side stole back some momentum on the stroke of halftime, with a try to Jye Frazer.
Former NRL star Bryson Goodwin, one of the new high-profile recruits for the Lions, added the extras for a 12-10 scoreline.
The home side got to the lead when Tim Townsend scored a nice try six minutes after play resumed.
That made it 14-12 to the Lions, a lead they held on to until the full time hooter.
The match winner was scored by Jake Isedale nine minutes from the end.
City winger Semi Rabici’s try inside the final two minutes made it 20-19 and ensured a thrilling finish, but Mittagong were able to hold on.

Thirlmere had to work hard for their 10-7 win over Oakdale at Sid Sharpe Oval on Saturday night, in what was an early season showdown with last year’s runners-up.
Scoring was at a premium in the twilight affair, with only three tries across the 80 minutes.
Oakdale did all their scoring in the first half.
Former Oaks winger Hamish Oxley bagged his second try since his move west.
Mitchell Brasington, also an ex-Tiger, converted the try and landed a field goal on halftime to give the Workers a 7-0 lead at the break.
Josh Bryant opened the Roosters’ account midway through the second half, with Blake Harrison bagging what became the match-winner eight minutes before time.
The conversion from Dayne Craig gave the Roosters a three-point lead, which they held until the final siren.
All teams will have a break next weekend for Anzac Day before Round 3 resumes.
