Local health district up for three awards in 2020

South Western Sydney Local Health District is in the running to win three categories of the 2020 NSW health awards.

District chief executive Amanda Larkin said the SWSLHD finalists were for the Secretary’s Award – Integrated Value-Based Care, Health Research and Innovation and People and Culture.

Ms Larkin said it was fantastic to see three projects from the District recognised.

 “These projects demonstrate our commitment to safe high quality care and our drive for continuous improvement,” Ms Larkin said.

 “All three of these programs show a strong focus on individualised care, ensuring the best possible outcomes for our patients.”

 The District’s Aged Care Rapid Assessment and Investigation (ARIA) Unit is a finalist in the Secretary’s Award – Integrated Value-Based Care category.

 The aim of ARIA – which provides targeted, streamlined, multidisciplinary care for older patients – is to provide integrated care, improving patient outcomes by providing the right care in the right place at the right time.

 The Faster Cheaper Safer: Use of electrocardiography (ECG) for Central Line Placement project is a finalist in the Health Research and Innovation Category. 

The District’s Occupational Therapy Student Intensity Training Program team (pictured above) is a finalist in the People and Culture category.

 There are 19 finalists from 14 state-wide health entities competing for 10 award categories. 

 The NSW Health Awards recognise innovative and sustainable health programs that deliver outcomes that matter to patients and invest in the wellness of the NSW community.

Health minister Brad Hazzard said the circumstances of the past year made it more important than ever to acknowledge the achievements of health staff in NSW.

 “I extend my wholehearted gratitude to every health staff member during this most difficult time, and I know the people of NSW do too,” Minister Hazzard said.

 “This year our health family has been through bushfires, floods, drought, and of course, the Covid-19 pandemic, and has done a fantastic job in the face of these enormous challenges.”
