The latest Covid-19 initiatives by local councils include home solar and battery information webinars at Camden and book delivery service from Campbelltown libraries.
Elderly people and home schooling parents can now access books and other resources from their local library through Campbelltown Council’s new delivery and click and collect services.
People aged over 70 years and those who are medically vulnerable can reserve books by calling their local library and have them delivered to their door by council rangers.
The loan period for these books has been extended until libraries reopen to the public.
Parents who are home schooling their children can also order library resources or books from the Premier’s reading challenge online and pick them up from the libraries as part of the click and collect program.
“Our libraries have diversified the way that they can support our community during their temporary closure, at a time when their resources are more valuable than ever,” says Campbelltown mayor George Brticevic.
“Having our rangers deliver to the homes of our elderly and vulnerable community members not only provides a great service, but also gives us the opportunity to conduct welfare checks and provide some social interaction to people who aren’t able to go out and see their friends,” Cr Brticevic said.
Camden homeowners can learn how to save on their electricity bills by registering for council’s free home solar and battery information webinars.
Two free webinars, to be hosted by an independent expert in May, will help residents understand energy use and work out whether solar energy is right for them.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Theresa Fedeli, said it was the perfect time for residents to educate themselves on solar power.
“Solar is now more affordable than ever and could save people money whilst also reducing your environmental impact,” Cr Fedeli said.
“As a council, we aim to assist the community with ways to make their lives easier and installing solar power has several benefits including giving you freedom and control over your electricity bill.
“The webinar will be delivered by an independent expert, so this will not be a sales pitch. This is purely an opportunity for the community to better understand energy use and how we can also reduce our carbon footprint as a whole.’’
Webinars will be live streamed via Zoom with residents able to register their place on council’s website and send in their questions to the facilitator at the end of the webinar.
Residents can also register to receive council’s Sustainable Camden eNewsletter and go into the running to win a sustainability prize pack with assorted goods valued at $100 at www.camden.nsw.gov.au/environment/sustainable-living/sustainability-enewsletter/competition/
