A Socceroos legend and one of the good guys of football has become the first player to join Macarthur FC Bulls.
The club has announced today that Tommy Oar has signed a two year deal to play for the Bulls when they join the A-League next season (2020-21).
The speedy midfielder’s signing is set to entice other top names to Macarthur in the next few days and weeks.
Oar was capped 28 times by the Socceroos, including the 2014 World Cup where he played in all group matches.
He possesses speed and the ability to put in dangerous crosses into the box.
The latter, which could be said is the Oar trademark, was on show several times for his current club, the Central Coast Mariners, in their win over Melbourne Victory last weekend.
Macarthur FC head coach Ante Milicic said Oar’s experience and character made him an ideal player to secure as the club’s first ever signing.
“I worked with Tommy at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and was impressed by his attitude and application to his work,” Milicic said.
“He’s played many times for the national team, has experience playing overseas in Holland, and of course is very familiar with Hyundai A-League.
“Tommy will fit perfectly into the style of play we want at Macarthur FC.
“We’ve said all along that we want good characters and good people at this club and Tommy certainly sets a standard in that regard.”
Oar, who was born on the Gold Coast in 1991, made his senior debut with the Brisbane Roar, before trying his hand overseas.
His biggest gig was at Dutch club FC Utrecht, where he played 100 games and was a standout during that time.
This was followed by a stint at Ipswich Town in the EPL before he returned to the A-League in 2016 where it all started for him, Brisbane Roar.
His two year contract with the Mariners expires at the end of the current season.
