Space Real Estate approached Camden Council earlier this year about getting behind Pink Up Your Town campaign.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Theresa Fedeli, said the council was happy to get aboard knowing it was a fun way to tackle breast cancer awareness and raise funds for the McGrath Foundation.
“It’s such an important initiative to get behind because, sadly, we all know someone who has been affected by cancer,’’ Cr Fedeli said.
“Breast cancer is actually the most common diagnosed cancer and it’s currently the second leading cause of cancer death in Australian women.
“That’s why I am so proud council is supporting this fantastic initiative.’’
All funds raised through Pink Up Your Town will be donated to the McGrath Foundation to hire additional nurses to provide the best care for breast cancer patients.
“It’s been fantastic working with our community and local businesses on this initiative and seeing everyone throw their support behind it,” Cr Fedeli said.
As well as the giant pink ribbon above the entry doors to council’s administration building in Oran Park, Camden will be awash with pink all of October, including:
- pink flowers in the planter boxes located in Argyle Street and around council’s administration building and library and at the roundabouts located on Argyle and Elizabeth Street, Camden and Welling and Waterworth Drive, Mount Annan;
- pink wristbands for each council staff member;
- one council waste truck to be permanently wrapped in pink with breast cancer awareness messaging;
- light pole banners along Central Avenue and Dairy Street, Oran Park.
- local businesses encouraged to dress up their shop fronts pink for the month for October.
Council will also host a staff morning tea to raise funds for the McGrath Foundation.
