Risk reduction: New laws enable bushfire area residents to better protect their properties.

Residents in bushfire prone areas of Campbelltown can now legally do more to to protect their homes and families from bushfires following the introduction of new laws in NSW.

Welcoming the changes, the State Member for Campbelltown, Bryan Doyle said: “These new 10/50 vegetation clearing entitlement laws will help homeowners and the NSW Rural Fire Service more effectively protect lives and property during the coming warmer months.”

These new laws will allow people in the designated bushfire areas to clear trees within 10 meters of their home and vegetation other than trees within 50 meters of their home, provided they comply with the RFS Code of Practice.
“A well-prepared property, along with a completed Bush Fire Survival Plan, can minimize the risk of loss of life and property and that is the most important part of these new laws,” Mr Doyle said.
